Old Olive Press Room RHODES (HDR)

Hi, This is a very old room where they used to press olives in a little village called Asklipio on the Greek island of Rhodes, Now a small museum.
Taken with a Canon 1Ds Mk II 17-40 lens (wished I had a few more mm) and me pushed up against a wall
Used SNS-HDR and nothing changed out of camera.
    Thanks for Looking

    Hi, Russell

Nice use of HDR with wide tonal range preserved. Excellent DoF. Given the mild compromises you had to make given the lense limitations, good composition, although the choice to sacrifice the arch vs. the machine at the botom left might have gone more favorably toward the arch. Nice shot overall.

Hi, Thank you for the comments.
Only reason the arch is cut "I didn't have the camera level"
Lost some of the arch in straightening the photo.

    Hi Russell,

Of course, I freely admit I wouldn't think of this myself at the time if I were there, but was a two shot vertical orientation panorama a possibility? (to cover the wider angle)

I know it would be hand held, but might work.

As Kevin says, nice tonal range there - just right.

    Cheers,

    Hi Russell,

    Nice shot

Just a couple of comments ...

    1. Don't forget that the HDR + Tone Mapping usually doesn't produce an image that's immediately ready for publishing -- it only gets it to roughly the same stage as a normal dunamic range image (ie now ready for regular PP). In the case of your image - it does indeed contain a reproduction of many tones from the original scene, but the end result is an image that in it's own right is slightly flat. I'd suggest popping it back into Photoshop and raising the blacks clipping point - raising the exposure, and lovering the midtones slightly to get rid of the "gray mist".

    2. I read about the arch clipping due to the rotation .. often an image can be rixed in a way that doesn't crop as much off ... happy to give it a go for you if it helps.

Hi, Colin I have altered slightly in PP but not tried to straighten it, if you can give it a go please do.
    Thanks

    Any better?

Unfortunately, it does introduce some distortion.

Hi, Colin I think it is better than the original from this post but IMO the shelf at the back still slopes from L2R and the metal frame on the RHS is as you say distorted.
Only solution is to go back (only about 20 min drive) and try as Dave stated with maybe two or three vertical shots and try to stitch.
    Many Thanks
    Russ
