    Elephant in colour

We were parked taking some light refreshment whilst driving in Moremi Game Reserve. The bush was very thick and I didn't see this elephant emerge from the bush until he was in full view, for its huge size an elephant makes very little noise as it moves through the bush. He walked past us to drink at the water.

    Elephant in colour

    C&C welcomed

Is it the only one you have left ?

Perhaps you can improve the photograph making the elephant stand out more...

Hi Antonio, we have great wide open spaces. But if you want impressive vistas visit Namibia and South Africa.

Yes I know. Namibia is great. Been there 9 years ago. Too dry perhaps.

South Africa also great. Been there also.

Clive, did you add a blur to this image? If so, i would like to see it without the blur.

I'm jealous every time you post wildlife Clive, great to see a big unit being so light on its feet, nice work. Question, are you a tour guide?

    Re: Elephant in colour

Hi Steve, no blur was added but it was a very hot, hazy and dusty day this I think did affect the image quality during PP, plus I did darken the edges a bit with a vignette? Once again you have a very good eye for detail and I see exactly where you're coming from.

Hi Wayne, many thanks. No I'm not a tour guide, all the pictures are taken from our Toyota Landcruiser: many, many hours spent in the bush.

Hi Wayne, can't beat a Cruiser. Never fancied guiding myself but I have done the theory for the FGASA but I've no money for the practical which is a luxury as I won't use it.

    Re: Elephant in colour

Just catching up with missed posts as the result of having been away for a few days.

For me this image, by a long distance, is the most impressive colour image of wildlife that you have posted up on CiC. It's not just the colour of the image, but it's the composition. I think the temptation for many would have been to go in much closer and fill up the frame with elephant. But, you have resisted that and beautifully shown us the animal within its environment.

I note what is written about re it being hot and hazy and that possibly causing a bit of softness. I don't know of the application of some Local Contrast Enhancement on the skin of the elephant would result in it feeling a bit sharper. But, it stands as a very good image as it is.

Hi Donald. Many many thanks for the positive input and comments. I will look at your suggestion of local contrast but I think I've just about pushed this one to the limit.
