Robin's Eggs: Flash or No Flash?

The other day, when we were out looking for trillium, I spotted this robin's nest with a couple eggs in it. It was in a really odd location, but one that was convenient for photographing...

I took similar shots - one with the flash, one without.

    With Flash:

    Without Flash:

I'm currently running a poll on my blog to see which folks prefer if you want to head over that way to cast your vote.

Thanks for viewing. Any and all C&C appreciated.

Bill, that is actually kind of tough. There are things I like about both. I ended up going natural because it looks more natural and I prefer some shadow. I do however like the clear, sharp, crispness of the flash, but it was a little washed out looking to me.

I prefer the one with the flash. The shadow detail is hands down better with the flash.

With that said, the one with the flash needs some additional editing. There is a slight color cast that needs fixed---the highlights need brought down a little and the blacks need increased a little. A little more saturation wouldn't hurt either.

Bill, this might be a good candidate for aligning and merging the two images and retaining the best features of each in a single result.
