I love shot #2 (dispite it seeming a bit unsharp) because of the intense stare of the border collie.

I'm assuming this was taken at a Sheepdog Trials competition. I did a bit of that was I was young (I had an uncle who was really into it and travelled the country competing). I love watching sheepdog trials. That synergy of man/woman and dog working together is just wonderful. The hours and hours my uncle and his dogs used to spend in the fields training was immense. It was areal passion, in the same way that my photography is for me.

The photographic opportunities at a trial are immense - not just of dogs and sheep, but of the people taking part and standing around watching.

I had the notion to go to some of the trials and do a shoot. But by the time I thought about it last year, the trialing season was over. So, I had planned to do it this year.

I acknowledge what Richard says about #2, but the fact that man and dog and both concentrating on the same thing in #1 makes, I think, for a totally engaging image.
