Is too much of the shell OOF to make this shot any good. It was one of my first ones with my macro lens, and I have since learned not to fire away with such a wide aperture, but I kind of liked this shot.

Andrew; good first shot with a macro. I like the sharp focus in the center, and falling off as your eye goes around the spiral.
The sharply focused leaf edge is a bit distracting, and imo the harsh shadow is more a problem then the dof on the snail.
I would like to see a tighter crop on the snail, maybe even abstract close.

Thanks Mike, good advice. Do you like this one? I wasn't sure about the B+W, but there really wasn't much colour left in the shot after cropping out the leaf so I warmed it up a little bit.
