Disappointing color shift from my new 8MP cell phone

I know Mp's ain't everything but was a little surprised by the green circular "matte" around the A/C in this shot (and the A/C wasn't even running ):

Disappointing color shift from my new 8MP cell phone

Samsung Galaxy II, 8MP rear camera, ISO50, 4mm, f/2.65, 1/30, resized, width not cropped.

Green . . hmmm . . . is this a fine example of the effect of tiny pixels and a very wide angle lens?

I had ambitious hopes for that whopping 8MP but I guess that good area in the middle effectively brings it down to a bit less.

    (rises to the bait . . .)

I went out and immediately got one! Imagine my surprise when I had to send it back to Apple just for a new battery - well, just kidding, but that's major reason why I'll stick with what I've got thanks.

    Androids rule!

The only time I ever used the camera in my cell phone was when the driver of the car in which I was riding had a fender bender. I shot to document tha accident. No one minded about the color shift. However, I expect that Photoshop will start coming out with cell phone corrections in the future CS6 and above...

Hi Ted, I don't think I'll worry about the quality of pictures my phone takes until after I can get it to make reliable phone calls on a regular basis. Until then, I think I'll use my camera to take pictures. Novel thought, eh?

Amen! A phone is meant to.......make phone calls???
Or will cameras have a phone built-in in a future generation?
I took just ONE picture with my cell - from my grandkids - to use as wall paper instead of the built-in pics.

    Have a guess :)
I use mind quite regularly - sometimes its just to grab a quick screen shot - sometimes as a scanner to make a quick PDF - but also sometimes as a serious camera

Perhaps we should be calling them something like "multi-Function Personal Devices"?

Grr - Tapatalk hosting site has "fiddled" with it ... just try to imagine it as a 5MP shot without the horrible JPEG artifacting

Some clever apps out there for the iPhone.

I've one lets you shoot 30 second exposures regardless of how bright a day it is....try that with a DSLR.

Indeed Frank, my previous phone had no camera and I managed to live without it. However, it is quite useful to be able to snap stuff like this:

. . without having to drive another mile or two down the dirt road to the cabin and then return with the point-and-shoot - by which time the local highways dept might have rushed out and fixed it . . or maybe not .

I agree completely, Ted. I do use my cell phone to snap the occasional picture as it may be the only camera available for things like a bumper thumper. My real point is that, at least for today, you really can't expect cell phone images to compare to what can be done with a DSLR, or even a P&S for that matter. ...and it really frustrates me that my cell phone is unreliable as an, uh, telephone device?

Don't think a Mobile Phone can be used as a real camera?

Not only a very good website but a very good argument that an iPhone is the only camera you need in your pocket. I'm not saying it can replace a SLR or that the quality is perfect but it is good enough for day to day shooting and in the right hands can replace a compact digital camera as your go-to camera.

When friends ask famed photographer Annie Leibovitz what camera they should buy, she suggests the iPhone. Appearing on NBC's new Rock Center news program, Leibovitz suggested the iPhone because it is "the snapshot camera of today"
