    Hi Sachin,

It's looking a tad on the dark side - was it a daylight shot?

We really need a bit more information here.

How does it look on your camera review screen? That will prove whether it is a shooting or editing problem.

I can't see any 'exif information' on that image; so can you tell us what your camera settings were. As much details as possible including the amount of light when you shot. Is this image brightness about the same as you actually saw at the time; or is it much darker?

The fox's eyes seem very bright so did you use flash?

How far away from the subject were you, Sachin? Very approximately.

It rather looks to me as though the camera automatically chose the flash option but you were too far away for the flash to have sufficient power. Hence the bright eyes on an otherwise dark scene.

Whether that was the best setting for that scene depends on a number of things, like the level of natural light.

could it be that you had your room light on and the fox looked directly at you/the window and that back light created the same glowing effect a flash would?

The Exif shooting details say that the flash fired. Possibly it fired but you didn't notice because of the distance. Alternatively, I suppose the camera set everything for flash but for some reason the flash head didn't pop up.

Either way, that distance is much too far for effective flash use so I expect that is the problem. The camera 'thought' it was exposing correctly but something went wrong.

This is always a potential risk when using the full auto, or in this case, the semi auto P option. But using Tv or Av, which would have been better here, does require a little bit of experience to select the best method.

However, it is well worth trying some experiments with these controls in order to eventually 'banish the auto settings from your shooting options'.

It is a pity this shot ended up so dark because it looks as though it would have been an interesting photo otherwise.

Sachin: All the exposure issues aside, I think it is a superb pic, as is.

FWIW, the fox's eyes were likely lit by the ambient. Although your EXIF data shows
the flash fired, I can see no other effects of a flash in the image aside from the reflections
in the fox's eyes, and as said, that could easily have been a result of ambient light
as very little light is required to light-up a nighttime predators eyes, especially
if they have their head in the right position to get the reflection.
