    Zebra drinking

I was sitting for hours on the riverbank near a waterhole in the then dry Boteti River in Botswana watching the game animals mainly Zebra and Wildebeest at the waterhole.

    Zebra drinking

It took me ages to get those stripes lined up!

    Zebra drinking

    C&C most welcome!

Very good PP work then, Clive

Just kidding, very nice shots. How far away were you?

    Hi Remco,
    Thanks for the comments.

I reckon I was about 25-30m away and 3m above the river bed concealed and cramped behind some shrubs.

Not so sure about the second one because of the shadows falling across the faces. But the first one ........ That is an excellent wildlife shot. Beautiful. And, yes, all that work in getting stripes lines up really did pay off.

I love how you've gone in quite tight on it and not been tempted to give us the wider shot trying to include all bodies of those four.

That first shot is excellent. The zebras I tried to capture when I was in South Africa last all seemed to want to hid in the trees.

Agree about the second one now that you mention the shadows Donald - I didn't think about it (notice it) before. However, what did catch my eye was the reflected light on the faces.

Malcolm, many thanks. I sympathize, I've just got back from a trip and have more pictures of Zebra backsides than anything else.

Steve, many thanks. At the time the camera was a standard Sony DSCH1 with the tele conversion lens. Now I'm using a Nikon D90 with a 55-200mm lens shooting RAW.
