Rescue of a Pygmy Killer Whale

This whale (technically a dolphin) was washed up on a beach near a resort here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The hotel staff alerted WWF and Dr Lindsay Porter, a Marine Biologist living here and it was refloated and taken to the resorts lagoon to be cared for. As it was weak and could not support itself, volunteers took it in turns for 24hrs to stay in the water and hold the dolphin up. It slowly recovered and eat two fish during the night, regaining some energy. Late yesterday afternoon, it was lifted onto a boat and taken out to sea and released. That 2nd pic is amazing, as the fellows face shows the seriousness of his
resolve to hold the dolphin steady until it could recover. Poor thing looks
like it's been in a few battles.

Thanks guys, it was quite heartwarming to see how many people turned up to help and I'm lucky that one of my best friends is the marine biologist!!
