Aurora Borealis

Hi all...
Wish you all a very happy new year!
Got the chance to visit Tromso, Norway and was lucky to have a clear weather.
Attaching a photo of Aurora Borealis with minimal adjustments in Lightroom and a minor crop.
Canon Power Shot S 95 on full manual mode...

A very nice image, I'd like to see the Aurora Borealis one day (but I don't like the cold) and I gather it is by no means guaranteed you'll see it, let alone so spectacularly as here.

I note the EXIF says; 15 seconds, f/2, iso160 at 6mm - good choice of manual settings.

The only thing that slightly spoils it for me is the camera movement mainly visible in the lights along the bottom of frame, fortunately it hasn't affected the stars too much.
I would guess that the camera moved a little as you fired the shutter button; the self timer, set to 2 seconds, can be used to avoid this.

I just bought an S100, I hope I manage to use it this well.

I'm going to throw in an OMG! This is a spectacular image. To be able to witness one of natures most amazing shows with such clarity is simply breath taking. Great work on the full manual with an S95 as well.

Hi there, very cool pic of the northern lights! Living in northern alberta, Canada I am very fortunate to be able to see the lights from my front steps. I took this picture the other night and did some minor adjusting using photoshop. I am just learning photography and how to use my camera :)

And Dave, You are absolutely right about shutter release. I had the idea about long exposure, so I took a tiny tripod with me. It dawned on me to have used timer once I had left the place... :( I wonder if any remote shutter releases exist for cameras like mine... And, I sometimes think I should have waited a month before I jumped for S 95... S 100 has geotagging... a feature I would have really loved to have... Anyways, will work with 95 for now...

I live near the equator, 8+ degrees north. I have seen equatorial auroras from some really dark sites, but they were colourless flashes.
