    No diplomatic skills at all!!

But indeed there are not many other ways to say it. There is indeed a distinct absence of pictorial imagery.

It's the elephant in the room Donald!

I figured that if I replied the poster would get an e-mail and look in whereas if no one replied it could be ages until they noticed.

What a great shot! As a beginner photographer, may I as for some details on the realisation of this picture? I find the texture and tone of the pic most intriguing.

    I do too..

and would be banned ( quite rightly!) if I even thought about it anatomically.

    Re: Just a Rose

    Just a rose?

In the natural world this rose, like any other, is a flower, a biological structure, a functional organ of a plant. It has evolved to be full of colour, with the sole purpose of being attractive to hapless animals which it dupes into transporting pollen to or from another colourful rose, in order to perpetuate its species.

In the human sphere, the rose also has emotional content and meaning. It has probably been selectively bred to enhance the structure, texture and colour of its petals. It is often viewed not only as an object even more beautiful than its wild cousin, but its shade of colour is also highly significant as a symbol of human love, desire and passion.

To strip this rose of its colour is to remove its raison d'etre, both as a wonder of nature and as a positive emotional signal. It is no longer just a rose, but it is just a non-rose or an anti-rose - a structure without function, or a statement of love lost. This might have been the intention, though this is doubtful.

As a photographic image, the range of tones (see the histogram) appears a little too truncated at the upper end - raising it does bring out more of the textures. But, as is obvious here, I would prefer to see an image of just a rose in all the colourful tones of its natural splendour.

    Just an opinion.

    Philip
