    Canon 5D - AF Points

I have a 4 year old Canon 5D and witin the last 10 days, the AF points no longer light up when the shutter button is held. The only time the AF points light up is when I manually select a point in the viewfinder.

Did anyone at one point have this problem or know of a way to fix it? I contacted Canon regarding this and they gave me some instructions to fix it, but it did not work.

    Hi Paul,

Have you been playing with any of the custom functions by any chance?

Not that I am aware of. I can double check when I get home later and set the camera to its default settings.

That's probably a good starting point. I'm not sure what firmware options the 5D has, but mine has options to only illuminate the AF point once focus has been achieved. Also, you haven't popped the lens into MF mode by any chance have you?

I figured it out, I had the AF set to AI Servo. Had no idea that I had it set to servo. Its all good now. Thanks.

    Well done, although ...

... I should have thought of that!

These posts have me wondering - do the 5DC and 5DII vary in this respect. With my 5Dii set to AI Servo (my usual setting), the centre focus square lights up. Or is it because I use the * for focusing?
