    What Time?

If I were to ask you, "What time was this picture taken?" What would you say?

    Re: What Time?

I would say mid day with a play on W/B.

    Re: What Time?

Could it be early morning...also with a reduction in WB temp?

I would answer, "I don't know, but there is a way to find out."

    Re: What Time?

It would if Joie is in an another time zone and forgot to set the camera clock. Just happened to me and only noticed that 2+ weeks of shots are based on home time.

But agree, cannot be moonlight. Probably not possible at 1/125,f22.

Joie should have stripped the EXIF

f11 @1/60 100 iso was my setting for a bright day when I forgot my meter But f22 @1/125 @200iso is like 1/250 @f11 @100iso or very bright indeed.

    I think it is midday.

There are some strong shadows there, can't be moonlight I think.

I think this is actually a common misconception, I believe (I may be wrong) that moonlight shadows are even stronger than sunlight because there's no 'fill' light from the rest of the sky at night, but it's all relative, so maybe my eyes deceive me

I say the shot is daytime too - the sky/clouds wouldn't be that well lit at night

    Re: What Time?

Let's see. I am going to assume you took the picture on the coast near you. I don't believe it was taken on the more sandy south side of Queens or Rockaway given land masses on the horizon. Perhaps you got out of town. Regardless, there is a good chance you would be facing a general easterly direction given your time zone. The shadows of the Gulls and the log or lack thereof give me pause and make me think mid-morning. However... Is night too obvious? I think not, mostly due to the lack of illumination on the land masses in the distance.

I'm going with night. Sometime after any residual sunlight from the horizon had disappeared (perhaps 11pm EST) in an area with very little ambient light and you had a really, really bright Moon. I'll take another wild ass guess and say you didn't do too much with the image.

    Re: What Time?

1:23 pm is the correct time.... Taken on the beach in Rockaway. The land masses on the horizon is New Jersey. WB set to Tungston with a slight under exposure. Read about this in Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" book, so thought I would try it...

The green colours still left are betraying you a bit. Wouldn't see those in the dead of night. But I guess the picture would do well on the casual observer's eye. Nice photo though

HA! I was off by about 12 hours.

That was a fun little thread though....

    Thanks Joie!
