My sons School CCF RAF Cadets on their 1st flight in a glider. This young mans 1st flight, weather closing in, wind, rain - would he be able to to slip the surly bonds of earth........yes he did. I know it is not the most technical of photos but I just hope you can see the apprehension.

I'm not sure that look is apprehension, I think he is calculating his distance from the horizon and how fast can he get there.
