I'm always happy to confess that I'm not a portraitist and am more comfortable seeing those who are, comment on images like this. However .......

It's a well-conceived portrait and captures what looks like a moment of quiet reflection. One of the challenges of this must have been giving enough exposure for the hair in order to get enough detail into it, at the same time as holding back so as not to over-expose on the skin tones. There's not a huge tonal difference between the skin tones and the background, so the face is not 'popping' out maybe as much as it could

Joanne, unless I misunderstand your intention here, I think this is a very nice portrait of hair braids.
The braids are the focus of the photo, correct? I do look at the face, but then it's quickly back to the razor sharp braids in the hair.
If this was your intent, nice job! I like it.
