    Moon Shot C&C Welcomed

I picked up a Sigma 150-500mm for my Nikon. I'm still trying to get used to it.

The moon was bright in a cloudless sky. Feels like fall tonight in the midwestern US.

    Hi Scott,

I like the focus of the image, but might have cropped it a bit closer, as there really isn't
anything else we can include in the image to compliment the moonscape. Nice pic though,
and that 500mm looks to have done a fine job.

Autumn is most definitely in the air. We've had warm days, and the nights are already dropping
to the low 40's (6º-7º to the rest of ya). Leaves are beginning to turn, too.

Thanks for viewing. There were some interesting clouds framing the moon but they were gone by the time I got set up. Here's a tighter crop for good measure.

I like the closer crop much better, and the terminator line is giving some awesome contrast
to Copernicus (big crater in the middle-left).

Really nice surface definition Scott, and if it's any indication of future performance, then that
    new lens is a keeper!

    Hi Scott,

A very good effort, certainly a great capture for exposure and focus.

If I may, I'd suggest the tighter crop, which I prefer, has the moon about 3% too close to the top and left edges.

Have you done any Local Contrast Enhancement on the image? It might help get a little more contrast into the features.
I'm also not sure the sharpening is quite as good as it could be.

As you can tell, I am being quite 'fussy'; sorry, I am just trying to make a good image great.
It is better than anything I have posted as it stands though - to put it in context

    Cheers,

Thanks to everyone for viewing and comments. I will take all of your comments and fiddle with it after work and such. The new lens is a ton of fun! More to follow....
