Another rose pic - comments welcome!

Just hope I get the upload right!

I've listened to the comments from my previous efforts and am hoping I can get some feedback/critique again please.

I orignally took it in RAW format, but have re-done it as a JPEG.

By the way - I didn't use a tripod, as it was getting a bit late and I didn't make the time!

Hello, Garry. The shot looks nice. Red roses are very hard to nail the exposure right but I think you got it. My only nit is that it's a bit on the soft side. Some extra sharpening could probably help. You framed the flower a bit close to the center. My extra suggestion would be to crop some off from the left side as it does not help much on the composition. If you can reverse the position of the leaf at the lower right to make it look like it is behind the red petal then that could strengthen the image more. Good job. Hope this helps.

    Hi Garry,

Not sure what other feedback you have recieved, but as Willie said, it is a bit soft. When I started taking flower shots, I was sometimes in my neighbour's garden in the evening. My first attempts were also a bit blurred/soft, so I had to either 1) Use the tripod or 2) Hold by hand and use TV (shutter speed) mode set to at least 90 and increase the ISO levels to 400 (or whatever seems to work best) to let in the necessary light. Try one of those methods and your leaves and petals will start to show lots of definition.

    It's certainly a lovely rose!
