    Fig Feast

A Green Peach Beetle feeding on a fig. There were easily more than 2 dozen of these buggers feasting on the same fig (for some reason, they all preferred the same fig). Maybe they should be renamed Green Fig Beetles? With all the pushing, shoving, and squirming, it took some patience to get any shot that wasn't motion blurred. Initially, I thought I could get a decent shot of several beetles crowded together (the heads, at least), but there was just too much motion. I finally settled on the bug at the bottom, since she seemed to be shoved around the least. C&C invited and most welcome.

Willie or Jiro is fine by me.

Awesome colors and details, AL. Any chance you can rotate the image 180 degrees CW?

I considered this orientation before I posted, but decided I liked the original better. I don't know why, but this just doesn't look right to me.

I can accept any of the two. The good thing about the shot was that you were able to preserve the reflective green color on the beetle.

Cool bug shot Al, no matter if she's up or down. Just look at those hooks on her legs/appendages!

Another nightmare for Mike. This shot gives a better impression of the competition between the beetles, and in a way, I like it better than the first image. Whaddya think?

Congratulations, Snarkbyte. Your patience paid off and produced a spectacular shot. I much prefer the hanging-down version since it gives me a breathtaking sense of the beetle's precarious position. How would YOU like to hang upside down while having supper?

Thanks, Wayne. And who says I don't hang upside down for supper?

Thanks, Keith. I've definitely been bitten by the macro bug. I've ordered a focus rail which should arrive this week, so I hope to get some spider shots this weekend.

I think, even on something complex like this, the brain knows which way is up from subtle gravity clues and direction of illumination.

I prefer the first orientation, great shot Al, welll done.

    Cheers,

Thanks, Al. I have a shot where I can count at least 19 of these beetles on this one fig. There were plenty of other figs on the tree, but the bugs only wanted this one.

You do? And 19? I'll faint.
