    Sea Holly

A new one to me, but was fascinated by the blue stems and striking colours

    Sea Holly

Taken on my Olympus E510 and 14-42 lens.

Nice detail on the holly Dave.Good and sharp. The crates in the lower right corner can be a minor distraction even though they are out of focus but if your able to go back and re-shoot this i imagine they can be moved.Well done...Ron

Hi Dave, it might be worth purchasing one of the plants and shooting the image at home where you can control all aspects of the composition.

Put a little more romance in your life. Buy Her the flowers! You might just end up winning on both fronts!

    David,

Frank's a charmer who could buy me orchids any day . But flowers don't work for every girl, of course, and your wife may be persuaded to look at the purchase more favourably by this approach

Candied Eringo, amending the defects of nature:

'Eringo, Eringo, the candied root of sea-holly, whose sharp tang, soaked in sugar with a flavour of burning, he had enjoyed on summer nights at home, lying under the oak tree with a girl, stuffing her mouth with it and then tasting the crisp sugar on her lips'.

Hugh Walpole The Far Pavilions 1940

We have wild sea holly all around our coast, and I've always wanted to try candying the roots, but never had the heart to dig one up. It's a beautiful plant, and I'd love to see more photos of it when you have complete control over the conditions
