A little cool off since it's 100 degrees here today.

Here is a couple of pics I took last winter. Any C&C is welcome. I had a heck of a time getting the WB right.

I like the first one much better than the second. Why?

I think it's a much better composition. It's uncluttered. There is a better structure in terms of how the various 'bits' (house, fence, trees) balance up and complement each other. The second one, I feel, is a more cluttered. There's no room to breath. Everything is crowding in and competing for attention. My eye can't relax and enjoy the image.

On the issue of white balance, snow is the real big challenge. It throws up all sorts of problems. The answer?

You should think about the relatively small investment in a white balance card. One picture at the start of the session with it in the frame then allows you pick the right setting for all the others once you get home and onto the computer. This is the one I use.

Once again I agree with Donald on this, I like the first one better than the second for the same reasons.
One suggestion might be to flip the image horizontally, it might make for a more pleasing composition.

Thanks for the comments. I think I also like the first the best.

I didn't have a gray card with me and the camera didn't quite get it right. I was struggling in LR to get something that looked right.
