    RIAT RAF Fairford.

RIAT-Royal International Air Tattoo. It's held each year in July at RAF Fairford which is 25 miles from my home.It was held last weekend. I've been on the two show days a couple of times but now you have to book well in advance and the problem is the weather- as it was this year.Torrential rain on the Saturday morning and showers on Sunday accompanied by high winds. One year it was cancelled due to deep mud especially in the car parks after torrential rain so this time I went on the arrival and departure days.

I'm on a learning curve with photographing these and many have been deleted. Some require fast shutter speeds of 1/1000-1/1200 sec. for jets and others (the prop planes) slower shutter speeds 1/160-1/200 sec. to avoid the propellors appearing stationary. Most of it is done handheld too. I've I/D'd what I can if anyone can fill the gaps please shout up.

Big lens, and look good to me but I wouldn't think 1/1000 was too fast for a prop.

Thanks Nicola-much appreciated. I'll change those. I'm struggling with 1-5 here too, you could I/D those please ?

Steve. 1/000 sec. is definitely too fast for a prop. I had to delete prop. plane photos with 1/800 sec. Here's one at 1/800 sec. The guys next to me had the Canon 600mm lenses on a Wimberley Head, another had the same as mine, Canon 100-400 and in addition the 300mm f2.8 prime . Serious stuff.

    1/800sec.

Steve.. I've just found a better example of 1/125 sec. - it really shows the prop. whirr. This is one of the 3 Royal Saudi Airforce planes that were there. It's at 1/125 sec. but that was just a bit too slow,I have another two but not sharp, I don't know if it was camera shake or should have been more like 1/160 sec. or 1/200 to catch the speed of the plane yet keep the whirr of the props. As I mentioned at the top of the thread I'm still on a learning curve here- I need to get to other airshows rather than wait for this one each year.
