Pisa - San Ranieri (patron saint festival)

the last thursday was the day when Pisa celebrates his saint: San Ranieri.
celebrations start at sunset and go ahead for two days with many events.
one of those is the "luminara": every building faced to the river has been covered with candles that shine in the low light of the sunset, it marks the beginning of the celebrations.
a few hours later, the pyrotechnical show starts.
below a few pictures of these two events
    many thanks for viewing
    and please C&C!
    Nicola

You say many thanks for viewing - I say many thanks to you for sharing such wonderful photos. It's not always necessary to chose a favourite when several are posted but the one that made me linger and then go back to was number 2, having said that the last two are so 'alive' and certainly leave nothing to the imagination as to what it was like to be there - that celebration must quite enthralling for the children to see.

Beautiful photos, Nicola. What I also find interesting is that in the 1/8th of a second that it took you to capture #3, none of the little LCDs in the foreground have moved perceptibly. Some steady hands.

Very nice, very colorful. The first two taken at just the right time of night. I always wait too long and end up with pitch black skies.
