Orange Tip Butterfly - After 3 years of trying!

Every Spring/early Summer I see these Orange Tips flitting around me, but they just will not settle and pose for a decent photo. They fly around my head and settle on the foliage a couple of feet away and look up mockingly at me. But as soon as I reach for the camera . . .

This year, I even had one land on my camera when I was 6 feet away. I wouldn't be surprised if it was trying to photography me!

Finally I found a compliant model, for about a minute; but that was long enough for a couple of snaps.

Maybe not absolutely perfect - but it's the best I could manage after a 3 year hunt.

Your patience paid off, Geoff. That is one sure rare butterfly to see and caught in your camera's viewfinder. Good detail and good use of DOF. Well done.

Very nice photo! I know how hard it is to get shots of butterflies - especially with the wings open. I will have to look that one up - not familiar with it.

Very nice shot, Geoff. Especially the undersides of the wings - that is a very interesting pattern.

Thanks for the comments. I did also take a couple of images with the wings fully stretched open, but thought this one with wings slightly curved looked more natural.

Congrats, Geoff. Very nice photos indeed. Never seen such a "furry" butterfly before.

Well done! - they are terrific images - I just have to look at a butterfly & think how hard it would be to capture, but would love to be able to do it..... thankyou for the success story
